Before leaving on my trip, I did purchase additional optional items, like lens filters, several additional memory cards, a prime lens, a wide angle lens, a gorillapod tripod, and a sling type camera holster cover, but all of these were nice but not essential for my travels. In fact, I kept returning to the 18-200mm lens as my daily lens--it is by far the most versatile lens I had for travel photography.
